True Blood’s Anna Paquin Still Calls New Zealand Home

Even though she’s lived in the States for many years now, Anna Paquin, who plays tough as nails Sookie Stackhouse on True Blood, is still very much a New Zealander. Especially when she’s chatting on the phone with friends and family who still live there. Paquin has done an amazing job perfecting her southern accent on screen, but as of late, her Kiwi accent has been bubbling beneath the surface a lot more both personally and professionally.

Paquin has come under fire somewhat recently about her diminishing accent, but the criticism is a bit arbitrary. Paquin was born in Canada, moved to New Zealand at the age of four, then moved to Los Angeles at the age of 13. Yes, her most impressionable years were spent in New Zealand, but the fact that her accent isn’t very strong after living in the States for 15 years seems to make sense.

Paquin and fellow True Blood cast member, Stephen Moyer (vampire Bill Compton), tied the knot this past summer and have made a home for themselves in Venice, Los Angeles. The newlyweds share their time between the States and the U.K., where Moyer grew up. Moyer knows a thing or two about having to squelch his native tongue, and has even admitted that he finds doing other voices and accents easy.
